Gothic Butterflies at Dusk Manicure

Things are still pretty busy for me here, so I’m all about doing quick and easy manicures these days. Today’s design uses stamping over magnetic polish for a simple gradient effect with some punch to it.

I started by painting my nails with a coat of Greenland Night from Born Pretty’s 3D Magnetic Aurora Series. After allowing it to dry for a bit, I painted another coat of polish over a nail and immediately held a cat eye magnet at a diagonal angle over the polish to create the pattern shown below. Each nail needs to be done one at a time because the polish needs to be wet when the magnetic force is applied.

Greenland Night from Born Pretty really looks like a faraway galaxy! The cat eye pattern also shifts positions when you move your fingers creating extra depth to the look.

I wanted to pair this polish with some silver stamping, so I chose a stamping plate from Bundle Monster with butterflies and arabesques that would look pretty against the shifting background.

Bundle Monster’s BM-718 plate looks whimsical with its butterflies and swirls.

Review of Born Pretty BP-MA04 Greenland Night Magnetic Polish

I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to preview of one of the new Born Pretty polishes that will be released to the public on June 6. Let’s take a closer look!

Born Pretty has been seriously upping their package game as of late. Their branding has become more sophisticated and elegant looking over time. The bottle of polish is inside a cream colored box with gold foil text which complements the colors of their website design.

Front and back views of the exterior box. The ingredients are listed on the back.

What I noticed right away about the bottle itself was the classy gold ring running along the base of the cap which instantly makes it look more high end. All the text is printed in gold. The bottle contains 6 mL of polish, but this information is only printed on the box and not on the bottle itself.

BP-MA04 Greenland Night Magnetic Nail Lacquer from Born Pretty is a dark plum color with blue and red microglitters.

The bottom of the bottle is labeled with a mini bar code and the name of the series and color of the polish. It should be noted that this sticker is also affixed to the box in which it came.

Review of Born Pretty Valentine’s Day BP-L001 Stamping Plate

Today I’m reviewing Born Pretty’s Valentine’s Day BP-L001 stamping plate. Born Pretty seems to be releasing collections of plates based on holidays lately, but this sweet plate is full of pretty designs that you’ll be using all year round.

The plate comes shipped in an elegant looking cardboard sleeve.

The backside has basic instructions for how to use it, but I’m sure that most of you reading this post are veterans of stamping.

The plate itself is mounted on a piece of white plastic so that you can’t cut yourself on the metal edges. A thin blue layer of plastic film (the “protection sticker” mentioned in the instructions) covers the surface to protect it from being scratched. You must remove this before using the plate.

Sparkly Multichrome Manicure

I’ve still been pretty busy these days, but I needed a change from my last manicure, so I went for something that would be quick and easy to put together for this week.

My polish of choice was something that looks stunning on its own: a multichrome polish from Beauty Big Bang. They call this Chameleon Polish 001, and the color is amazingly shifty in a good way! It has forest green tones that border on teal blue and has a dark purple undertone in indirect light.

This polish alone would have been enough for me, but I added some multi-toned rhinestones purchased from AliExpress to make it look even more fetching.

These rhinestones come in a few different sizes and have a somewhat iridescent sheen to them that make them appear multicolored.

Review of Born Pretty Water Based Base Coat

Today I’m reviewing a water based clear polish from Born Pretty Store. If you’ve ever worked with nail foils, you will know that people swear by water based top coats to finish off their manicure. Foils are known to shrink and crack when virtually any top coat is applied, ruining their beautiful finish, so I jumped at the chance to get this product when I heard the words “water based” in the formula because I was curious to see just how effective it would be.

Born Pretty Water Based Base Coat comes in a box labeled with the ingredients on the back.

This must be their generic box because the list looks identical to the one they use with their other polishes.

For comparison, this bottle and box photo comes from my review of their metallic flake top coat.

As for the formula, it’s clear and on the thinner side but not runny. It smells a little bit like a mix of ammonia and some sort of cleaner, although I can’t put my finger which one. It comes in a 9 mL cylindrical bottle with a good sized flexible brush that can easily paint most nails in 1-2 strokes.

Neon Metallic Floral Print Nails

Happy Mother’s Day! I’m bringing some bright neon floral nails for Mom with this manicure so let’s get started!

I’ve been using a lot of foil lately, so I wanted to try my hand at combining foils with stamping, something that I’ve only done one other time. I picked this pretty shimmery magenta one from a batch I bought from eBay a long time ago, and then I picked colors for my manicure to go along with it.

IMG_20180509_023359.jpg

This foil comes in a long piece that is placed in a small canister for storage. We’re definitely not using this much for the manicure!

For the stamping, I chose the rose design from the top row, 2nd from the right from the Valentine’s Day BP-L001 plate from Born Pretty Store.

IMG_20180407_105720.jpg

To make the decals, I applied some HK Girl Top Coat from Glisten & Glow in rectangular sections on top of the silicone Lotus Mat from Bundle Monster and allowed it to dry completely. I then used Born Pretty Stamping Nail Polish in Purple to transfer the image from the plate to the patch of dried top coat and quickly rubbed the foil over the stamped area. If you are not quick enough, the foil will not stick to the image, and you will have to try it again. This is definitely not an easy process, and you can see that my bottom two tries were more successful than the top two tries. Practice makes perfect!

When the foil transfers perfectly, the image really shines!

Review of Born Pretty Nail Foils, Item 41600

Interested in using nail foils? Today’s review covers a set of 12 designs offered from Born Pretty Store. Let’s take a look at the product!

Set of Born Pretty foils, item 41600.

At first glance, these foils don’t look like anything special. The designs are folded lengthwise in half and placed inside a resealable cellophane bag so you don’t really know what you’re looking at. However, once you display each sheet of foil separately, their beauty becomes apparent.

12 designs, ranging from lace and flowers to animal prints and some Christmas themed patterns, are included in this package.
