Review of Born Pretty Magnetic Nail Polish in Aurora Borealis BP-MA06

Recently I showed you a galaxy manicure that featured a gorgeous magnetic polish from the Born Pretty 3D Magnetic Aurora Series called Aurora Borealis. It’s so stunning that I wanted to do a quick review on it, so let’s get started!

This polish comes in the updated Born Pretty packaging. The box instantly makes you think the product is more high end than your drugstore brands, but it also serves the purpose of listing the ingredients and protecting the bottle during shipment. The front side has a cutout window so you can see the color of the polish clearly.

The top of the box also has a sticker sealing the top flap closed while the bottom of the box lists the name of the polish on a sticker.

The bottle itself holds 6 mL of lacquer, so it’s about half the size of what you would normally get from most drugstore brands. No mixing ball is included inside, but you will find a medium sized flexible brush.

The Born Pretty website recommends that you paint your nails with black lacquer first before applying the polish so you will see a greater effect when the magnet is applied. You must purchase this separately, but magnets from other kits work with this polish. For my swatches below, I applied 2 coats of black polish followed by one coat of Aurora Borealis, then I used a cat eye magnet from Born Pretty to create the effect. The closer you hold the magnet over your nail, the stronger the effect will be.

The color is truly mesmerizing. It shifts from teal green to aqua to a reddish purple under the light making this what I consider to be a chameleon magnetic polish.

This polish produces an effect that really does resemble an aurora borealis!

Using the magnet produces a two tone effect that looks stunning.

I ended up making a galaxy manicure using this polish as my base color for a natural gradient effect, but your nails will stand out regardless of whether there is extra nail art placed on top of them.

The polish has a great painting consistency and is very easy to apply. It doesn’t dry super fast so that it allows you to take a little time while playing with the magnet to create your design. Just be sure to shake the bottle well so that the magnetic particles are evenly dispersed inside, and have fun with it!
