Schools have their winter recess now, so there are quite a lot of folks who hit the road (or skies) for warmer destinations. Unfortunately I am not one of those people, and I can only live vicariously through my nail art, so I created a tropical scene for this design.
I started by painting all my nails with Coconut Milk, a beautiful creamy white polish from Dimension Nails. It’s totally opaque in 2 coats and has the best painting consistency out of a lot of polishes that I have tried.
I added details using the Tropical Punch L002 plate from Born Pretty Store. You can create an island paradise with this plate and really let your creativity flow.
Because the flamingo needed to be colored in using reverse stamping, I started by taking Ya Qin An stamping nail polish in Black and stamped a flamingo. I filled in the beak with Ya Qin An stamping nail polish in Gold and used China Glaze’s Pink Voltage to color in the bird.
I decided to make this design more fun by stamping the artistically abstract lines (the second of the rectangular patterns on the bottom) on my middle and ring fingers with black polish and then transferred my colored in flamingo design on top of my index finger.
I used different leaf patterns with green stamping polish (Nirvana from Born Pretty’s Melody Life Series) to fill up my pinky, index finger, and thumb and applied green polish to the leaves of the palm tree in the center of the plate and brown polish (Born Pretty Stamping Nail Polish #15) to its trunk before scraping it away to create the dual toned image on my middle finger. The leaves ended up being a little bit transparent because the black lines were visible underneath them, so I ended up stamping the leaves a second time to give it another coat of polish.
It so happens that one of my students loves flamingos, so she was thrilled when she saw them on my nails.
It’s a fun design, and it makes me wish I was on a beach relaxing under some palm trees instead of stuck in a cold city where it gets dark at 4 pm. Good thing the days are getting longer now!
