Today we’re going to look at a thermal crelly polish from Born Pretty from the same Glitter Thermal collection that the color Cloud of Purple Sky came from. Today’s color, Cerulean Stars, is a beautiful light blue when cold and turns into a mostly clear jelly with glitter when warm.
This polish is supposedly water based, so it doesn’t have an offensive odor. It paints on smoothly and dries quickly, so it’s a great polish for kids.
Because this polish turns clear when warm, there isn’t much color to it and paints on very sheer, even for a crelly. I used 3 coats for the swatch below, and it still looks rather milky and translucent, although the silver glitter distribution is spot on.
Truth be told, I had the hardest time getting this polish to change colors. All of the thermals that I have tried before don’t require huge temperature changes to see the effect, and I had all but given up hope that this polish would change colors until I spent one rather chilly day outside. After prolonged exposure to the cold, I got it to show more of the color that it was when it was in the bottle, but for some reason, the tips of my nails did not change colors. I’m not sure if it’s because I had applied stamping on top of it, but that normally does not affect the color changing ability of thermal polishes.
The one awesome thing is that this polish peels off easily when you’re ready to change manicures, but it will stay on your nails for at least 2-3 days before it shows signs of peeling. You shouldn’t be in danger of spontaneously losing the polish off your nails in the middle of the day like you are with other peel off formulas.
Overall, I loved the color and formula of the polish, but I was disappointed by the thermal effect. In terms of a normal polish, I would give it 5/5 diamonds, but because this is supposed to be a thermal polish, I had to take away a diamond because it fell a little short in terms of its color changing ability. The color is gorgeous regardless, but if you buy it, don’t be surprised if you have a hard time getting the shades to shift.
Diamond rating: ♦♦♦♦◊ (4/5)
