Today I’m going to show you a unique product that gives you a multitude of design options while working with your existing nail polish collection. Sounds amazing, right? It’s because it’s a holographic glitter thermal top coat!
The ingredients are listed on the reverse side of the box, but because Born Pretty uses the same packaging across their nail polishes, you can never be 100% sure about what the bottle really contains.
As for what’s inside, you get 6 mL of top coat in each bottle. There is a thermal pigment embedded in it which makes this polish appear black when cold and relatively clear when warm, and fine holographic glitter is dispersed evenly throughout despite the lack of a mixing ball being included in the container. The brush is soft and pliable, and the formula has a medium consistency that is easy to apply.
This top coat can be used over any color polish or even by itself to create a blackout effect. If you apply a thick layer over your manicure, it will look more opaque when the temperature is cold, but the downside is that the base color underneath will look slightly gray.
Note that this was the original manicure prior to applying the thermal top coat.
I had created these tax day nails in order to make my taxes disappear, and I would say that the effect was moderately successful in hiding the stamping.
I wasn’t completely satisfied with the results, but I do love a good vanishing manicure!
I tried using this top coat a second time with a forest evening landscape manicure. Because I was aware of the gray undertones of the top coat, I chose a polish color that would complement them better. I first experimented with a thicker coat on my thumb first to see if I liked the effect.
For a different effect, I used a super thin layer of the top coat over the rest of my nails, and I loved the results. The thermal top coat made my base color look slightly darker rather than black when it was cold, and it didn’t distort the normal color of the polish as much when my nails were warm.
Here was the original stamping before the thermal top coat was applied.
I think this product works great, and I love how you can use it with any color that you own to turn it into something new. I’ve never seen any other products like this on the market, and I think it’s a game changer for the nail industry even though it hasn’t been advertised well on social media. You’ll definitely want to try this top coat out!
