Koi Manicure

Feeling a little fishy? Here’s a manicure featuring koi. Did you know they are a symbol of love and friendship in Japan?

To give my fish somewhere to live, I first painted my nails a turquoise blue shade from Sephora by OPI called Bright as a Feather. This polish has shimmery silver particles in it that give the color more dimension. I applied 2 coats for the swatch below.

The next step was the create some ripples in the water. I used the design from the upper left hand corner of the Harunouta-L076 plate and Born Pretty stamping polish in BP-WT04 Summer Mints (a light turquoise) to do so.

The Harunouta-L076 stamping plate is inspired by Japanese imagery.

The koi image near the bottom middle of the plate was then stamped with Ya Qin An polish in Black and filled in with orange polish (Crushed from the Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear collection) on 2 stampers. I arranged the koi across my middle two nails in opposing directions so that they resembled the sign for Pisces.

A layer of matte top coat from Née Jolie finished off this design.

Hope you’ve been staying cool so far this summer! Just keep swimming!

Happy polishing!
