Mermaid Nails

Summer is pretty much right around the corner at this point, and the temperatures have definitely been rising in the city! It’s been making me crave a beach day, or at least some mermaid nails!

I started by painting my nails with a black soak off gel polish from Born Pretty. I applied and cured 2 coats of color and followed it up with a layer of Clavuz no wipe gel top coat. Each layer was cured for 60 seconds in a 48W UV/LED lamp, and then a blend of teal and green chrome powders from iMethod Beauty was applied with a sponge applicator and sealed in with another layer of gel top coat.

I applied teal chrome powder to the tips of my nails and green chrome powder to the rest of the area in order to create this gradient effect.

Shattered Mirror Nails

Not too long ago, I dropped my phone and cracked the screen for the first time ever! It’s limited to only 2 corners, so it doesn’t really get in the way, but for a perfectionist like me, it’s annoying! I’m due for a new phone upgrade anyway, so maybe it’s a sign… In any case, it inspired the creation of this shattered mirror nail art.

I began by painting all my nails with black gel polish. Because I knew I was going to apply chrome powder over my base, I didn’t mind using one of my lower quality gel polishes to do the job. This black gel polish in color 01 from Born Pretty’s Solid Color Series was the very first gel polish I owned and was part of their silver chrome starter kit. My, how far we’ve come since then! Now I know not to wipe off the tacky layer between coats of color and to use a good gel base coat with it! This shade still left much to be desired in terms of coverage as 2 thin coats still wasn’t very opaque, but like I said, I wasn’t picky about it because I knew I was topping it with a chrome powder.

Each coat cured for 60 seconds in a 48W UV/LED lamp.

I then applied and cured a coat of Clavuz No Wipe Top Coat prior to applying a silver chrome powder from IMethod Beauty over it with a sponge applicator. The results are super shiny and reflective, and you can’t tell that the black polish underneath it had uneven coverage.

Another layer of Clavuz No Wipe Top Coat was applied over the powder to seal it into place.

Metal and Lace Manicure

Here’s a quick tutorial for this rather edgy looking metal and lace manicure.

I started by applying a gunmetal gray polish from Formula X for Sephora called Hypnotize. It is close to opaque in only one coat and dries with a naturally flat metallic chrome finish to look street chic.

2 coats of Hypnotize from Formula X for Sephora were applied to all my nails.

Review of Beauty Big Bang 5 Piece Mirror Metallic Lacquer Set

Today we’re going to look at set of chrome polishes from Beauty Big Bang. It’s always fun to try different brands, so let’s take a look!

The polishes from Beauty Big Bang don’t have clever names. They are placed into separate categories according to the polish type (e.g., holographic, thermal, stamping, etc.) and then numbered. The type is designated on the box but not on the bottle itself, so you can see that these polishes belong to the “Metallic Polish” series.

Cute feature: heart shaped cutout windows on the front of the boxes so you can see the color of the polish inside.

The boxes all have the ingredients listed on the back and the creation and expiration dates on the side which are roughly 2 years apart from each other. However, I’m sure the polishes are still usable past the expiration dates as I have plenty of bottles that are way more than 2 years old and are still ok.

The colors in this set make up something close to a metallic rainbow. You get 9 mL of polish in each bottle which is a little less than what you would find in a typical drugstore brand, but it is still a lot of lacquer. You only have to ask yourself when the last time was when you completely finished a bottle to know how much use you will get out of this size!

Review of Born Pretty Nail Lacquer in No More Chrome

I have another beautiful polish for you today! If you’ve ever wanted to have chrome nails but don’t want to go through the gel polish and powder route, this metallic lacquer is the perfect choice for you.

The color of this chrome polish is ironically called No More Chrome. It comes from the Born Pretty Mirror Metallic Series of which there are 7 colors available. This shade is a cross between silver and gold and more aptly described as either light champagne gold or platinum depending on the light source.

This lacquer is shipped inside a box and lists the ingredients on the box rather than on the bottle.

Art Deco Chrome Nails

Today’s design was loosely inspired by a beautiful chrome polish from Born Pretty called No More Chrome. The color is a cross between champagne gold and platinum, but it stands out for its somewhat pearly metallic finish.

2-3 coats of No More Chrome were applied for this swatch.

This color begged to be paired with some bold graphic lines, so why not do something art deco?

The source for the pattern was an unlikely one. I used plate BP-L073 from Born Pretty and chose to feature the flower pattern from the center of the right half of the plate. The petals offered the look that I wanted to achieve.

Sparkly Multichrome Manicure

I’ve still been pretty busy these days, but I needed a change from my last manicure, so I went for something that would be quick and easy to put together for this week.

My polish of choice was something that looks stunning on its own: a multichrome polish from Beauty Big Bang. They call this Chameleon Polish 001, and the color is amazingly shifty in a good way! It has forest green tones that border on teal blue and has a dark purple undertone in indirect light.

Beauty Big Bang Chameleon Polish 001

This polish alone would have been enough for me, but I added some multi-toned rhinestones purchased from AliExpress to make it look even more fetching.

These rhinestones come in a few different sizes and have a somewhat iridescent sheen to them that make them appear multicolored.
