Faces of a Relationship Manicure

Not every relationship is a good one, and there are two sides and more than meets the eye when it comes to each one. This manicure isn’t specifically based on anyone I know, but it’s just me expressing more of an artistic side.

I started by painting my nails a creamy off white color. This shade is B268 Coconut from the March Mani X Me Box from Maniology, and it’s opaque in 2 coats. Use code FINEPOLISH10 to save 10% off your order or $5 off a Mani X Me subscription!

Neon Rainbow Pride Nails

It’s June, and pretty much the entire month is associated with Pride celebrations. I was playing with drag diva pianist Jacqueline Jonée for her shows, so I wanted to do a set of rainbow nails to complement her “50 Shades of Jonée” theme. I’ve been itching to try out my neon powders with stamping, so keep reading to see how this was achieved!

I started by painting all my nails black with Black Lace, a color from Sephora’s ancient “5 day shine” series of nail lacquers. This polish was part of a set that was gifted to me for my birthday 9 years ago, and it still works great!

Review of Harunouta-L072 Stamping Plate

Here’s a quick review of the Harunouta-L072 stamping plate. If you love nature, this is the plate for you!

A blue layer of plastic film cover the top of the plate to prevent it from getting scratched. You must remove this layer prior to using it.

This long rectangular plate is mounted on a piece of plastic to prevent you from cutting yourself along the metal edges. It comes inside a cardboard slipcover that lists basic instructions for use on the back. A sticker with the item number seals the free edge to keep the plate from falling out of it during shipping.

Review of Born Pretty 3D Chameleon Magnetic Aurora Series

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, I’m sure you must have seen pictures of my swatches of Born Pretty’s collection of chameleon magnetic polishes. There are 6 colors in this “Magnetic Aurora” series that span the spectrum from magenta pink, coppery bronze, teal, to purple, and they’re all gorgeous!

Top row (L to R): BP-MA01 Astral Realm, BP-MA02 Lightning, BP-MA03 The Gravity (rebranded The Summit). Bottom row (L to R): BP-MA04 Greenland Night (rebranded Night Imply), BP-MA05 Fairbanks Arts (rebranded An Art), BP-MA06 Aurora Borealis.

Each of these elegant boxes is wrapped in plastic wrap, and a label on the side of the box shows the item number and the name of the color.

The reverse side lists the ingredients, although this part of the packaging remains the same across all Born Pretty polishes.

What these polishes are known for are their multi-toned chameleon effect in addition to their reactivity to strong magnets. When magnets are applied over the wet polish, stunning 3D color shifts can be achieved. Please note that regular refrigerator magnets are not meant to be used with this set and will not work with these polishes. There are plenty of nail art magnet styles out there that you can purchase that are compatible with these lacquers, so there are a lot of design possibilities.

Even in the bottle, you can see there are at least 2 tones to each polish depending on how the light hits the surface.

Floral Vine Nails

We’ve been having such lovely weather lately where it truly feels like spring outside. I wanted my nails to match the season before it becomes insufferably muggy, so I created this pretty floral design.

To start, I applied 2 coats of Shell Me the Truth from Nicole by OPI. This pretty shade has a duochrome like effect where it appears either lilac pink or golden light pink depending on how the light hits it.

Review of Born Pretty Holographic Thermal Top Coat

Today I’m going to show you a unique product that gives you a multitude of design options while working with your existing nail polish collection. Sounds amazing, right? It’s because it’s a holographic glitter thermal top coat!

The bottle looks like it contains black nail polish, but it turns into a clearer color when applied to a warm surface.

The ingredients are listed on the reverse side of the box, but because Born Pretty uses the same packaging across their nail polishes, you can never be 100% sure about what the bottle really contains.

As for what’s inside, you get 6 mL of top coat in each bottle. There is a thermal pigment embedded in it which makes this polish appear black when cold and relatively clear when warm, and fine holographic glitter is dispersed evenly throughout despite the lack of a mixing ball being included in the container. The brush is soft and pliable, and the formula has a medium consistency that is easy to apply.

Check out that holographic sparkle in the bottle!

Thermal Forest Landscape Nail Art

Awhile back, I tried out a holographic thermal top coat on my tax day nails and wasn’t so satisfied with the results. I vowed to try the top coat out with a different design that would really showcase its gorgeousness, so here I am presenting some thermal top coat nails, take two!

Because I knew that the thermal top coat had a slightly grayish undertone to it even when warm, I decided to pick a polish color that belonged to the same spectrum. Pictured here is 3 coats of The Color to Watch from OPI. It’s beautifully shimmery and has a slight pink-lavender shift.

Fun fact: this was one of the first bottles of OPI polish that I ever bought!

Knowing that my thermal top coat would make this color darker, I decided to make a forest landscape scene across my nails to mimic the look of dusk turning into evening. To accomplish this, I used the Harunouta-L072 plate.
