Unicorn Nail Art

Happy March, everyone! I’ve been meaning to do some unicorn nail art for awhile just for fun, so let’s get on with this magical manicure!

My base color was an indigo wonder from Beauty Bigbang, 009 in their Holo Polish series.

Beauty Bigbang Holo Polish 009 is full of magical rainbows that are perfect for a unicorn theme!

I’ve been feeling lazy about doing freehand stuff lately, so I opted to use plate L045 from Harunouta to assist me with this manicure.

I chose to use the unicorn from the top row, 2nd image from the left, and the shooting star 2 images to the right of that for this manicure.

Mardi Gras Nails

This week is full of holidays, so here is some Mardi Gras nail art to get the good times rolling!

I planned to do a rather intricate design, so I didn’t go for a solid shade across all my nails. I decided to use a golden shimmery yellow (Nadia from Julep) alongside a glossy black (Johnny from Julep) for my base colors.

I first did a preliminary sketch of my mask with pencil and paper to give me the confidence to paint it across two of my nails. The sketch looked way better, but I also was painting this design late at night and was getting increasingly more worried that I wasn’t going to get enough sleep because I knew this wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought!

In any case, I used craft smart acrylic paint in black to paint the mask, then used a striping brush with gold holographic polish (Heart of Gold from Born Pretty) to paint diagonal lines across the mask to form a diamond harlequin style pattern.

Review of Born Pretty Holo Polish H010 Heart of Gold

If you’ve been following my posts lately, you will have noticed that I’ve been using a gorgeous gold holographic polish in a few of my manicures. This polish is from Born Pretty Store and is aptly named Heart of Gold.

This 10 mL bottle is full of gold shimmer and holographic goodness. The packaging is pretty cute, too!

The nail polish is inside a cute box that is just as pretty as the polish itself. The backside lists the ingredients, as they are not printed on the bottle itself, along with social media information.

The top of the box lists the color of the polish inside should you choose to store the bottle in its original packaging.

This polish admittedly does have a strong smell to it that is similar to acetone, but the formula is just the right consistency where it is not too thick or thin. There is a mixing ball in the bottle to easily stir up the contents should the pigments start separating from the formula. The handle also holds a fairly wide brush that makes it easy to paint your nails in 1-2 strokes.

Brush and bottle shot.

The opacity of the polish is astounding. You can get a decent amount of coverage with just one coat of polish, although I recommend applying 2 coats for the best color payout.

This formula is so shiny that it is super reflective even without any top coat applied!

Oh, and did I mention how beautiful the holographic effect is? It really sparkles in bright light and reflects rainbows like a prism.

The macro shot shows the multi-dimensional color of this polish.

The formula dries fairly quickly, and it doesn’t chip too easily if you apply base and top coats along with the color. I’ve been wearing the manicure below for about a week, and it still looks nearly flawless. The best part is that the gold color makes any chips look less noticeable.

I went for Oscar gold with this Hollywood movie themed nail art.

Because the polish is so heavily pigmented, it is great to use with stamping plates. Heart of Gold looks especially chic over black nail polish.

You can create sparkly fireworks (or sparkly anything!) with this polish and the right stamping plate.

I have to say that I absolutely love this nail polish and am now coveting all the other holographic colors on the Born Pretty website. If you love holo, then you really should try this polish out!

Hollywood Movie Nails

My orchestra had a “Lights, Camera, Music!” themed program last Sunday where we played musical selections from different films alongside a projection of either related images or actual clips of the movies themselves. It was a super fun concert, and it inspired me to paint these sparkly gold Hollywood inspired nails.

The real star of the artwork was the holographic polish. Honestly, I don’t think anyone can go wrong with holo polish because it is just so beautiful! I started by painting my nails with Heart of Gold from Born Pretty Store for some talons worthy of an Oscar.

2 coats of Heart of Gold from Born Pretty give you opaque coverage with a gorgeous color.

I found the cute filmstrip image on plate BM-421 from Bundle Monster. The panes are empty so you can really get creative with what you want to put into the design.

BM-421 plate from Bundle Monster.

I used Ya Qin An Stamping Nail Polish in Black along with the filmstrip image from the uppper left side of the plate and haphazardly stamped it at different angles on my nails.

The stars on this design come from BP-64 from Born Pretty Store. I thought I could isolate a row of 3 stars to make the transfer process easier, but unfortunately the spacing didn’t match the image from Bundle Monster. I ended up stamping one star at a time into each frame. To do this, you only need to apply a little bit of polish over one of the stars, scrape off the excess, pick up the image with your stamper, then remove any extraneous parts around the design with tape before stamping it onto your nail. It’s a very tedious process, but it is easy enough to do.

After some top coat was applied, these stars were ready to shine!

You get a gold star if you try this mani!

This design was eye catching enough that several strangers (male and female!) made comments about how they liked my nails. And of course, the concert was a great success as well. Now to find inspiration for my next design…

Happy polishing!

Holographic Fireworks Manicure

Here is some easy nail art that I did to celebrate Mother’s Day this year (I know, I’m late with the blog posts).

I used Born Pretty Store’s Celebration BPX-L013 as my cheat inspiration for the week.

IMG_20170424_135309

BPX-L013 plate from Born Pretty Store covers you for a few different occasions throughout the year.

Because I was going with a firework theme, I painted my nails black as an evening sky.

IMG_20170513_115307

What’s A Tire Jack? from Sephora by OPI is my go to black polish right now.

Next, I picked a holographic polish to do the stamping. You can pick any color holo polish that you like because all the shades look more or less the same (all rainbows!) when the lines are as thin as they are in this design. I went with Heart of Gold from Born Pretty for this manicure.

IMG_20170509_121334

I used the 3rd pattern from the left side, first row of rectangular images on the plate along with the gold holo polish and stamped the pattern onto my nails.

IMG_20170513_114800

This design looks like a bunch of lasers. Pew pew!

The rainbows in the holographic polish really give the fireworks a multicolored effect

That’s all there is to this intricate looking manicure! Hope you guys liked it!

Happy polishing!
