Tropical Spring Break Nails

Everyone was going away for spring break recently, which was the inspiration for this manicure. I have one student who adores flamingos and had a “flamingo experience” where she got to interact with them in person while she was in Florida, which sounded amazing! These nails are dedicated to her.

I chose a rosy salmon pink as the base color for this design. This was achieved with 3 thin layers of Belen gel polish in color NU016. Each coat was cured for 60 seconds in a 36W UV/LED lamp.

Spring Lily Nails

It’s nice to see flowers beginning to bloom all over the place! There’s nothing like the beauty of nature to inspire some nail art.

For this lily manicure, I started by painting my nails a lovely sky blue color using polish from Aimeili. This color is 113 Strongylodon Macrobotrys, and I used 3 coats cured at 60 seconds per coat to achieve the nice opaque creme color you see here.

3 coats of 113 Strongylodon Macrobotrys were applied for this swatch.

Ornament Nails

Today I’m going to show you a pretty design that’s fairly easy to create. I was inspired by a beautiful crelly polish that I had sitting in my collection, so let’s take a closer look!

The aforementioned polish is called Express Yourself from Pretty & Polished, and it has a pink base with gold holographic and red and black microglitters suspended in the formula. It’s a rather odd combination that comes together to resemble the surface of a Cadbury Mini Egg with a hint of sparkle thanks to the holo.

3 coats of Express Yourself were applied for this swatch only because I wanted to cover up some staining that was on one of my nails.

Classy Fall Manicure

When you think of elegance, pinecones and acorns are probably the last things that come to mind! I somehow managed to create a look that includes both those things yet still looks very classy. Keep reading to find out how!

I started by painting my nails a nude pink shade using Laguna Moon Classic Soak-Off UV-LED Gel Polish. I applied 2 coats and cured each layer for 30 seconds in a UV/LED lamp.

Jellyfish Ocean Manicure

Happy summer, everyone! Who is looking forward to going to the beach? I have to live vicariously through my memories of previous summers for now because I’ve been ridiculously busy this month with gigs, so I brought the beach to my nails with this jellyfish design.

I started by painting my nails with Recall from Born Pretty’s Flower in Sunshine Series. It’s a beautiful mermaid turquoise green color with a pearl pink sheen and holographic sparkles.

To create an ocean effect with some depth, I sponged on dabs of Diva into the Pool from Nicole by OPI.

For more contrast, I added a few dabs of Queen for a Night from Finger Paints. This was also a good choice for me because it alludes to the Queen of the Night character from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute, which I am currently playing!

Butterfly Early Spring Thermal Manicure

I don’t know what it’s like in your area, but NYC has been having some serious mood swings when it comes to the weather! We had snow one day and then gorgeous sunny weather in the 70s followed by rain and 40 degree temperatures.

All this inspired me to use some thermal nail polish to create some early spring nail art. I really didn’t have a clear picture of what I wanted to do once I applied the thermal polish, but I love how it ended up turning out!

I started by painting my nails with Through the Grapevine from Lacquer Lust. This gorgeous shade is a thermal crelly with holographic sparkles in it. When cold, it is a dark purple, but it lightens up to a pale lavender color when it’s hot. In any case, I also thought this was a lovely way to also shout out February’s birthstone, amethyst.

In a moderate climate, this polish looks like the color of a grape candy chew. A slight color gradation is normal as my body heat naturally lightens the polish with the tips being darker.

I figured that flowers and butterflies would look the best with this color palette, so I chose a plate from Harunouta that was perfect for this purpose.

Optical Illusion Metallic Geometric Nails

I got some beautiful chrome nail lacquer from Born Pretty recently and wanted to do a nice elegant brushed metal look to compliment it.

The star was really this base color in my opinion. I recall Sally Hansen having similar chrome polish over a decade ago, and the new metallic series from Born Pretty channels the original collection perfectly.

2 coats of Heroine from Born Pretty gives your nails a beautiful metallic surface.

For the nail art, I chose an image from plate BP-L070 from Born Pretty.

This manicure utilizes the 2nd pattern from the left in the top row of plate BP-L070.

The faux 3D effect was achieved with double stamping. I first stamped the image onto all my nails with black polish from Ya Qin An.

Next I used a clear stamper with the same design and silver polish from Ya Qin An and carefully aligned the design over the black polish already on my nails. The second application should offset the lines just enough to create a silhouetted 3D like effect.

I liked the brushed metal effect, so I applied a matte top coat from Sephora by OPI over the design to preserve the stamping.

Although this design looks complex, it was super easy to do. Also, because the design is double stamped, any flaws with the transfer aren’t as noticeable and actually aid in the 3D effect! There is definitely beauty in imperfection.

Hope you have a great day! Happy polishing!
