Little Red Riding Hood Nails

If you’re a fan of the musical Into the Woods, you’ll recognize the scene on my nails from the Little Red Riding Hood feature where the wolf and Red sing “Hello Little Girl.” Even though this manicure is stamped, it was probably one of the most labor intensive stamping designs that I’ve ever done and uses several different techniques to bring the images to life.

I started with a rich shimmery forest green polish from Julep called Giselle. You only need to apply 2 coats of polish to achieve the same color that you see in the bottle, and it’s beautiful all on its own.

Review of Mefa 12 Color Gel Polish Set

Who can say no to a good box set? I’m a sucker for buying collections of items, so it’s no shocker that I end up with so many nail polishes. They’re just so small and colorful! Today we’re looking at a 12 bottle set of gel polishes from Mefa. They are super affordable and come in a cute box set that is perfect for gift giving.

The back of the package lists the ingredients and warnings. As with all gel polishes, you should test a little bit of the formula on your skin for a few minutes to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction to it prior to curing it on your nails.

Cat Lovers Nail Art

Welcome, spring! I wanted to do something soft and pastel for the season, so here are some cute and cuddly cat nails in pink and gray!

I started by painting my nails a pale pink. This one is color 003 from Mefa. I applied 3 thin coats, curing each layer for 60 seconds in a 36W UV/LED lamp.

My First Time Doing Drag Marble Nails

Having been doing nail art for a number of years now, you would think that I’ve tried pretty much everything nail related by now, but surprisingly I’ve never done a drag marble manicure! People like Sveta Sanders caused quite a stir when her short video tutorials using this technique went viral on social media, but I was too obsessed with stamping and freehand designs at the time to ever want to try it out. However, the acquisition of a 12 color gel polish set from Mefa (look for a review on my blog coming soon) made me want to use all the colors! Gel polish is perfect for doing drag marbles because it doesn’t set until you cure it under a lamp, and so this design was created. Forgive me if it looks underwhelming because this was my first time doing a drag marble manicure!

I began by painting my nails with Mefa 047, a light gray color. I applied and cured 2 coats of polish, each one setting in 60 seconds in a 36W UV/LED lamp. The coverage on my nails wasn’t the greatest, but I didn’t mind because I knew I was going to apply more polish on top of this for the drag marble.

Hidden Desires Manicure

Anyone who knows me knows that I adore thermal polishes. It makes me feel like I’m getting the most bang for my buck when I see my nails change colors. But even better is the wow factor involved when you take advantage of the double color effect to hide some stamping!

For this censored manicure, I used Aimeili’s thermal gel polish in TC03 Old Fashioned. This shade is a taupe gray color when warm and completely black when cold, making it the perfect vehicle for hiding black stamping. I applied 3 thin coats to ensure that the gray color had enough coverage and cured each layer for 60 seconds in a 36W UV/LED lamp.

The cold color of TC03 Old Fashioned is solid black.

When your nails come out of the lamp, they will be warm, producing this taupe color.

Review of Azure Beauty 6 Color Gel Polish Set

Today I’m going to show you a gorgeous 6 color gel nail polish set from Azure Beauty. I can’t seem to find much information on the company, although I can tell you that they offer their products on Amazon.

This set is perfect for gift giving as it is presented in a nice box. The 7 mL bottles inside are a little small, but this allows you to try 6 different colors while keeping the price affordable. Each bottle ends up only costing a little over $3 (USD) each, which is still quite inexpensive considering that this is gel polish.

Instructions and a set of swatch stickers are also included.

The nail polishes are identified by their catalog numbers rather than fancy names, so the swatch stickers really come in handy so you can see the colors at a glance. The shades included in the set are a bright white, a lavender gray, a baby pink, a tomato red, a plum toned jelly with holographic and fine silver glitters, and a light gray.

For the stickers, I used 2 coats of color and cured each layer for one minute.

Metal and Lace Manicure

Here’s a quick tutorial for this rather edgy looking metal and lace manicure.

I started by applying a gunmetal gray polish from Formula X for Sephora called Hypnotize. It is close to opaque in only one coat and dries with a naturally flat metallic chrome finish to look street chic.

Winter Landscape Nails

I mentioned the other day that my work with New Camerata Opera was hugely inspiring and that it spurned the creation of some glam punk sheep nail art. I didn’t want to leave the 2nd production of the double bill out, so for closing night, I did nails that were loosely based on the opera Savitri by Gustav Holst.

I used the trees from the projection and the color palette of the costumes as the inspiration for some winter landscape snowy trees nail art.

I started by painting my nails a pale shade of blue. This polish from Julep is called Joanna and is a cross between periwinkle blue, lavender, and gray with the prettiest shimmer in the formula.

2 coats of Joanna look like sheer heaven.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Manicure

We recently had our first snowfall storm in NYC, and wow, did it make a mess out of the city! Nothing takes the magic out of snow away like sitting in traffic on unplowed streets for hours and hours! The weather inspired me to create a gray skied manicure with a lovable icon of Christmas to try to bring the wonder back.

I started by painting my nails gray with Laguna Moon Classic Soak Off Gel Polish in color CL064. Because I was using gel polish, I applied 3 very thin coats cured at one minute each in a UV/LED lamp.

IMG_20181117_005232.jpg

3 coats of Laguna Moon’s CL064 shade turns your nails into a chic gray with the added reinforcement of a gel polish.

My initial plan was to mostly use stamping techniques for this manicure, although things did not go exactly according to plan for me as you will soon see!
