Review of Born Pretty Valentine’s Day L007 Stamping Plate

Today we’re going to look at the Born Pretty Valentine’s Day L007 stamping plate. I adore Valentine’s Day themed plates because love is timeless. Who needs to wait around just for February 14 to roll around to do a romantic manicure? Not me!

Purrfect Together Valentine’s Day Manicure

Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤ I’m going to show you a “Purrfect Together” Valentine card design that I created for the occasion.

I started by painting my nails with 022 Rose Nude from Aimeili. It is a beautiful classic sheer light pink creme shade. I applied and cured 3 coats for one minute each in a 36W UV/LED lamp.

Review of BeautyBigBang017 Stamping Plate

Hello! Today we’re going to take a look at a stamping plate from Beauty Big Bang. I was super excited when they came out with their own line of plates, so here’s a peek at BeautyBigBang017!

This plate is the same size as other square sized plates from other manufacturers. It is packaged inside a small envelope made of cardstock that is printed with the company information. The back has a simple picture tutorial of how to use the plate.

IMG_20180722_120002.jpg

The packaging can be resealed by tucking the flap into the slit on the back of the envelope.

My only complaint is the same one that I have for a lot of plates: I wish that the packaging had a picture of the plate that was inside of it or that it had a plastic window on the front so you can see what is inside the envelope. As much as it protects the plate from getting scratched, I prefer not to keep my plates in these types of holders because it’s too much of a hassle to have to keep taking plates out from their encasements just to see which designs are on them.

The surface of the plate itself is covered with a thin plastic film (tinted blue) to prevent the surface from becoming scratched during shipment. This layer needs to be peeled off and removed prior to using the plate.

IMG_20180722_115549.jpg

Do use caution when handling the edges as they can be sharp enough to cut you if you handle the plate aggressively. The corners are at least rounded so you can’t injure yourself that way.

Once the plastic film is removed, the true beauty of the designs can be appreciated. Continue reading

Review of Born Pretty Valentine’s Day BP-L001 Stamping Plate

Today I’m reviewing Born Pretty’s Valentine’s Day BP-L001 stamping plate. Born Pretty seems to be releasing collections of plates based on holidays lately, but this sweet plate is full of pretty designs that you’ll be using all year round.

The plate comes shipped in an elegant looking cardboard sleeve.

IMG_20180407_111515.jpg

The backside has basic instructions for how to use it, but I’m sure that most of you reading this post are veterans of stamping.

IMG_20180407_111653.jpg

The plate itself is mounted on a piece of white plastic so that you can’t cut yourself on the metal edges. A thin blue layer of plastic film (the “protection sticker” mentioned in the instructions) covers the surface to protect it from being scratched. You must remove this before using the plate.

Black and Blue Broken Heart Manicure

Are you guys sick of seeing pink and red colors all month?  Now that Valentine’s Day is over, here’s the opposite of all those lovesick manicures: black and blue broken hearts!  This was for a nail art collaboration put together by @nailcraftaddict on Instagram.

I started by picking a pretty jelly polish from Pretty & Polished called Heart of the Ocean to be my base color.

img_20170217_001042.jpg

I’ll never let go of this pretty jelly polish!

I used plate BP-61 from Born Pretty Store to do some stamping.

img_20170217_001206.jpg

I picked black polish from Ya Qin An to do a background of tied up hearts using the image from the top center of BP-61.

img_20170217_001808.jpg

Don’t pull on my heartstrings!

I tried to do double stamping with Konad Special Nail Polish in Silver along with the black stamping polish from Ya Qin An, but my broken heart design didn’t stand out as well as I thought it would.

img_20170217_002155.jpg

I used the image from the bottom left corner of the plate in its entirety on my middle finger and separated the pieces of the heart for the neighboring fingers.

Although I was trying to avoid doing this, I ended up taking a detail brush with craft smart acrylic paint in white to outline the heart shapes by hand.  At least the design wasn’t too complicated!

img_20170217_002418.jpg

Another layer of top coat finished off the look.

Good thing it’s only the heart and not my nails that are broken!

For Feb. 1, the challenge was to come up with a heart themed manicure.  I tried to think a little more outside the box and decided to do conversation hearts on my nails.  I never liked eating them, but they’re pretty!

To start, I picked polishes in pastel pink, yellow, green, purple, and white that would match the candy’s colors.

img_20170201_214416.jpg

From the far left, the colors used are as follows: Ulta- Encore Pink, Sephora by OPI- Read My Palm, OPI- Rumple’s Wiggin’, essence the gel nail polish- wild white ways, and Sephora by OPI- IM Beauty.

I chose a random layout of the colors, but I purposefully did not want to put pink and purple next to each other because they look a little too similar.

A plate from Bundle Monster has a lot of the classic sayings from the candy, so I was able to save some time by stamping some of these onto my nails.

img_20170201_213832.jpg

Plate BM-425 from Bundle Monster.

Some care had to be taken to make sure the words would fit the nail I was stamping.  My nails aren’t very big, so I made sure to use the narrowest design on my pinky.

img_20170201_214735.jpg

Stamping was done with Konad Special Nail Polish in Red.

What I love about the stamping here is that it doesn’t have to look totally perfect.  The candy often has faded letters in some places, and the words are not always placed in the center of the heart.  If you decide to recreate this manicure, you will find that to be a very convenient excuse if things don’t work according to plan!

The last step was to paint a heart shape around the words.  Again, because my nails aren’t very wide, I couldn’t fit an entire heart onto the nail.  This allowed me to focus on just painting the top and bottom halves of the heart.  I used a detail brush with craft smart acrylic paint to do this, and I decided to outline each nail with a darker shade of its base color.  You can put a dot of color at the lowest and highest points of the curves of the heart and connect them in order to keep the outline more symmetrical as you initially paint the shape.

img_20170201_215058.jpg

Some of my paint pots are getting old, so the formula is more lumpy on some nails compared to others. Oops.

Add some top coat, and you’re all set!

img_20170201_205748.jpg

These hearts have a lot to say!

Part of me wants to do a cynical version of the hearts for an anti-Valentine’s Day theme, but that would require me to paint the letters by hand.  It’s definitely a fun take on this mani, so I’ll have to make this happen at some point!

Happy polishing!

EKG Heartbeat Nail Art

Call me a romantic at heart, but I love the look of the EKG heartbeat in jewelry and nail art.  It’s such a cute idea to exploit the heart in the graph, so when I saw this plate from Born Pretty Store, I instantly wanted to use it.

img_20160214_155027.jpg

BP-71 plate from Born Pretty Store is for the romantics out there.  I used the design on the far right side of the plate for this manicure.

It made sense to have the background of the EKG be white with black lines for the graph, but I wanted to color in the hearts in with red glitter as well.  I ended up using the following polishes in this manicure.

img_20160216_004705.jpg

From left to right: Ring In the Red by China Glaze, b.m.c. nail lacquer in noir black, and Bunny by Julep.

I decided to highlight the EKG on my middle two nails rather than stamp the same design across my whole hand.

img_20160217_162010.jpg

Bunny by Julep has some gold microglitter in it while Ring In the Red by China Glaze has densely packed different sized small red glitters throughout the entire polish.

Because I have short nails, I knew I would not have enough space to fit the entire 3 lines of the EKG design on them.  After stamping with noir black, I used Scotch tape to lift away one line of the design from the stamper.

img_20160217_163613.jpg

I stamped the entire design first and then used tape to erase parts of the image that would interfere with the look.

Using the revamped image, I stamped it onto my nails.

img_20160217_162605.jpg

Basic black can be cute.

I was annoyed that the image didn’t pick up clearly with the stamper alone, so I decided to take a detail brush and some black acrylic paint to neaten up the lines.  At this point, I might as well have painted the design by hand, but it’s a lot easier to trace over the stamped areas rather than draw it without a guide.

Next, I took a small dotting tool and used it to color in the hearts with Ring In the Red.  I left a little bit of a black outline around each heart to make it stand out.

img_20160217_163225.jpg

A neatened up version of the design with glittery hearts.

After applying top coat to all my nails, I added a black rhinestone near the cuticle of the nails painted with red glitter polish.  The gems looked like butterflies, although they could also be bow knots or X chromosomes for all I know.

img_20160216_011834.jpg

Butterfly rhinestones finish the look because when you’re in love, your heart is all aflutter.

It was sort of a cheesy concept, but I think it’s cute.  Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!  Happy polishing!
