Review of Rossi Nails Glam Powder Trial Kit

Hi, everyone! I’ve been away from the blog for awhile, but I’m still very active on Instagram. The stay at home orders during the pandemic have left me with a little more time on my hands, so I decided to make a post about dip powders for all of you adventurous do-it-yourself people out there. After all, the nail salons are closed, so now is a good time to experiment with new techniques!

Today I’m featuring a trial kit offered from Rossi Nails, a US based company. Their products are still made in China, but the formulas are developed in the USA. I tried a dip powder kit from Nicole Diary a few months ago but wasn’t so impressed with how long they lasted and especially did not like their top coat, not to mention that a lot of the activating liquids dried up in their bottles despite me not even using them that much. I was offered the chance to try out the Rossi brand and jumped at the new opportunity to have another shot at dip powder nails.

Why go for dip powder?

Easy Accent Nail Manicure

As previously mentioned, it’s hard to find time to do your nails when you’re taking care of squirrels! I decided to ditch my long nails so that I could work with my favorite rodents better, and I did a super quick and easy manicure to keep my nails from drying out from all the extra hand washing.

Everyone knows how hard it is to remove glitter polish, so I chose this gorgeous silver holographic flake polish as my base for some durability. The color is called Jubilee and comes from Cupcake Polish. 2 coats is all you need for a perfect manicure.

Who needs nail art when you have a color like this?

Inspired by a Color: Peach Floral Nails

When it’s August, I desperately want to go peach picking at my favorite orchard in New Jersey because their peaches are out of this world! I’ve truly never had peaches or nectarines from anywhere else that can compare to the ones that you find there, so I hunger for them all year until peach picking season comes back around.

The fruit was the color inspiration for this manicure, so I started by painting all my nails with 3 coats of ‘N Cream from Pretty & Polished. This indie brand is no longer in business, but boy did they make beautiful crelly polishes when they were online! This one is a milky white with peach glitters suspended throughout the mix.

Crelly (cream/jelly) polishes are pretty sheer by definition, so it took 3 coats to get the white base to become opaque.

Neon Rainbow Pride Nails

It’s June, and pretty much the entire month is associated with Pride celebrations. I was playing with drag diva pianist Jacqueline Jonée for her shows, so I wanted to do a set of rainbow nails to complement her “50 Shades of Jonée” theme. I’ve been itching to try out my neon powders with stamping, so keep reading to see how this was achieved!

I started by painting all my nails black with Black Lace, a color from Sephora’s ancient “5 day shine” series of nail lacquers. This polish was part of a set that was gifted to me for my birthday 9 years ago, and it still works great!

Floral Vine Nails

We’ve been having such lovely weather lately where it truly feels like spring outside. I wanted my nails to match the season before it becomes insufferably muggy, so I created this pretty floral design.

To start, I applied 2 coats of Shell Me the Truth from Nicole by OPI. This pretty shade has a duochrome like effect where it appears either lilac pink or golden light pink depending on how the light hits it.

Review of Nicole Diary-093 Stamping Plate

Here’s a look at a sweet square plate from Nicole Diary that is super easy to use and works really well!

img_20190526_130452

The Nicole Diary-094 plate features 6 flowery mandala designs on it.

This plate comes in a cardboard sleeve and has the typical blue protective plastic film covering the surface. This needs to be removed before you can use it. Do use caution when handling square plates though because there is a higher risk of cutting yourself on one of the metal edges if you grip the sides too hard.

Once removed, the beautiful designs of the plate can be seen more clearly. Each image measures 1.5 cm by 2.5 cm and is etched deeply so that every detail comes through when stamped.

Review of Born Pretty Chameleon Pearl Stamping Polish Set

If you’ve ever ordered from Born Pretty, you know how long it can take to receive an order. It’s not unheard of to receive items in the mail that you totally forgot you bought because over a month has passed! But with Born Pretty’s US Warehouse, one can receive their order within a week, which is a pleasant surprise! They tend to have sets of items rather than listing each item individually, but the prices are still reasonable with the shipping still being free. And who knows, maybe you’ll end up loving everything in the set anyway!

This review focuses on their 6 piece chameleon pearl stamping polish set. Each box is wrapped in cellophane (not sure if this is a permanent change across the brand or if this is exclusive to US Warehouse products) so you know the item hasn’t been tampered with. Other than that, the packaging is identical to the polishes from the regular Born Pretty website. The cellophane is a little bit of a pain to remove as it seems to adhere to the box slightly during the sealing process, and there is no pull tab to help with tearing it off. I had to use scissors to make an incision to be able to get a hold of the wrapping. This kind of seal seems wasteful to me, but I guess the US is known for creating a lot of garbage.

A pretty assortment of colors is offered in this set of chameleon pearl polishes.

Review of Nicole Diary-094 Stamping Plate

Today we’re going to look at the Nicole Diary-094 stamping plate. It’s an item that I didn’t expect to love as much as I did, and it’s definitely worth the feature!

img_20190526_192619

The Nicole Diary-094 plate is the standard size for circular plates. A layer of blue film covers the surface to protect it from getting scratched (don’t forget to remove and discard it before using the item), and it is packaged in a cardboard sleeve. This company leaves a circular cutout in the back of the cardboard holder that allows the user to see some of the images on the plate without having it to take it out but isn’t so big as to allow the plate to fall out of the packaging.

Patriotic Graffiti Nails

Ah, Memorial Day weekend! I finally have a little time for myself after an intense period of rehearsals and concerts, so here I am celebrating Memorial Day with some abstract red, white, and blue (and silver) patriotic nails for a different take on the flag.

To start, I painted all my nails with Jelly Belly + Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish in 621 Coconut. Can you believe I found this at Duane Reade the other day in the clearance section for just $1.24? I applied 3 coats to all my nails to get an even finish and waited for them to dry completely before continuing.

I used the Nicole Diary-094 plate for the fun assortment of squiggles and shapes that it offered. Layering different patterns from it, I was able to make a graffiti-like version of the American flag.
