First blog post of 2016! Happy New Year!
I’ve been feeling lazy, but I just got my January Julep Maven box, and it had this pretty light blue holographic color in it:
I wanted to use Tali as the base color for a snowflake themed manicure, but as is the case with a lot of things I do, things didn’t go exactly as planned.
I knew that the final result would be pretty low contrast with the silver and white stamping polish colors that I wanted to use.
How successful the manicure would turn out depended on how opaque the polish would stamp over it, and sadly, b.m.c. nail lacquer didn’t perform so well at that task. That was a shame because I had the perfect snowflake plate to use with the polish.
I started with iced silver to provide some subtle snowflakes in the background. The polish is hardly visible unless the light hits my nails just right, but I assure you that I stamped all my nails with some snowflakes. The holographic base polish has a lot of silver undertones so I didn’t expect the stamping to show up that well, but I was hoping for better results than this.
I was hoping to get very opaque white snowflakes in the second round of stamping, but they came out fairly light again.
The finished look is pretty, but it leaves me itching to try doing snowflakes one more time with better contrasting colors. We’re hardly into the winter season, so there’s still time to do this again! Besides, the barely there snowflakes are a perfect commentary on the not so wintry weather that NYC has been having lately.
Stay warm, and happy polishing!
