Snowflake French Manicure

We’ve had little bits of snow here and there in NYC, although it melts not long after it falls. It’s proved to be the inspiration for this pretty snowflake tipped manicure.

I started by painting my nails with a silver and holo glitter gel polish from Aimeili called Silver Glitter Explosion (#023). It applies mostly clear and looks like fairy dust thanks to the sparkling glitter pieces. I used 3 coats for this manicure to get the coverage shown below.

“Ugly” Winter Sweater Nail Art

Here’s a somewhat simple winter mani you can try. I’m filing this one under “medium” difficulty only because stamping straight lines is a little bit of a nightmare, so we’re going to cheat and use gel polish as a base.

I started out by using Aimeili Gel Polish in #110 Prunus Persica. This is a somewhat lavender toned dusky rose color, and it’s a little on the sheer side. I applied 3 layers, each cured for one minute in a UV/LED lamp.

Sophisticated Snowflake Manicure

Here’s a quick tutorial for the manicure that I sported at my concert last Sunday. Just like the snow we had last Thursday, it was here for a day and gone the next because I used a peel off gel base coat underneath these nails. I needed a design I could put together quickly the night before the concert because I unfortunately had mismatched hands due to my Cindy hand (right hand) having a traditional gel polish application that would go the distance and my left hand sporting a different manicure that had a peel off base coat.

I started by applying Born Pretty Peel Off Gel Base Coat to all my nails because I suspected that I wasn’t going to be able to do as nice of a job for this manicure due to time constraints. This layer was cured for one minute in a UV/LED lamp.

Next, I painted my nails black using Laguna Moon Classic Soak-Off UV-LED Gel Polish in color CL117. Two layers of polish were applied and cured at a minute per coat, leaving my nails glossy and completely dry for the next step.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Manicure

We recently had our first snowfall storm in NYC, and wow, did it make a mess out of the city! Nothing takes the magic out of snow away like sitting in traffic on unplowed streets for hours and hours! The weather inspired me to create a gray skied manicure with a lovable icon of Christmas to try to bring the wonder back.

I started by painting my nails gray with Laguna Moon Classic Soak Off Gel Polish in color CL064. Because I was using gel polish, I applied 3 very thin coats cured at one minute each in a UV/LED lamp.

3 coats of Laguna Moon’s CL064 shade turns your nails into a chic gray with the added reinforcement of a gel polish.

My initial plan was to mostly use stamping techniques for this manicure, although things did not go exactly according to plan for me as you will soon see!

Holographic Snowflake Nails

We just had a crazy snowstorm in NYC thanks to a second Nor’easter that came through the area. While the snowfall in the city wasn’t too bad, the driving conditions were absolutely miserable! I got caught in the middle of it in Long Island at a time when the snowfall was at its heaviest, and I can honestly say that I’ve never been so scared to drive in my life. The heavy snowfall and unplowed roads caused my anxiety level to skyrocket, especially after seeing other drivers lose control of their cars.

In any case, you’re here to see nail art, and snow can be really pretty and inspiring in other situations, so here’s a classy look to reflect that.

I started by painting my nails black with Johnny from Julep.

2 coats of black polish serve as a base for this manicure.

The snowflakes are from a nail foil design from Born Pretty Store, item 22930 on their website. It’s so pretty that I would wallpaper my apartment with it if I could! Use code RSSPX31 to save 10% off the regular priced items in your order there, and get free shipping as well!

The snowflakes are holographic, and even the black background has a hint of sparkle to it.

Glittery Snowflake Christmas Manicure

Being a musician, December is a busy time of year.  Seems like every group needs to perform a holiday concert this month, but I’ll never get sick of the music, especially seeing how happy it makes people.

One ensemble had a “Let it Snow!” theme for their concert, so I made nails to match.  I started by painting my nails a Christmas-y red with Tip Your Hat from China Glaze.

Tip Your Hat is a festive red color from China Glaze.

To really make this mani sparkle, I used a loose holographic glitter powder from Born Pretty Store on top of this.

To use the powder, a gel top coat is applied to the nails but cured for only about 15 seconds so that it is still tacky enough to allow the glitter to stick to it.  I used Born Pretty’s gel top coat over the China Glaze color.  The glitter is applied with the sponge applicator included with the set, and then a final layer of gel top coat is applied to seal in the glitter and bring out the shine.

The effects of the glitter powder are stunning.

To finish up, I added some stamping using plate BP-01 from Born Pretty Store.

For this design, I stamped the tree design from the center of the plate onto my ring finger, the full sized snowflake image on the far right side of the plate onto my thumb, and made up my own unique pattern using the two single snowflake images from the top of the plate for the rest of my nails.

Stamping was done with Born Pretty Stamping Nail Lacquer #4 (white).

This look was definitely eye catching, and I had people asking to see my nails all day at the concert.  It’s definitely a cheer filled design worthy of the holiday season!

Happy polishing!

Winter Sweater Snowflake Nails

I’ve never done an ugly sweater manicure before, so I figured it was about time that I fixed that situation.

img_20160127_133041.jpg

My color line up for this manicure consists of Konad Special Nail Polish in White, Sephora Nail Lacquer 5 Day Shine in Happy Hour!, Finger Paints Nail Color in Monet Money, and Nicole by OPI in Carrie’d Away.

I didn’t want to have to stamp every single nail, so I opted to do gold glitter for 2 nails and painted the other nails with Happy Hour!

Sparkly gold glitter polish and royal blue nails make a nice combo.

I painted a thick stripe of Monet Money over the blue nails in the approximate width of a section of the snowflake design from the stamping plate I was planning to use.  I thought about making a nail decal, but doing the color blocking directly on my nail seemed like the faster route.

Plate BPL-032 from Born Pretty Store. I used the pattern in the top row, 2nd image from the right.

Using Konad Special Nail Polish in White and BPL-032 from Born Pretty Store, I carefully lined up the snowflake pattern with the green color blocked section and stamped it onto my nail.

The stamping isn’t perfect because the squishiness of my marshmallow stamper distorted some of the straight lines, but the pattern lined up nicely overall.

After adding some top coat, the look was done!  Guess the sweater was more cute than ugly in the end.  Happy polishing!
